Growing Pains
Poetry Prompt: Awkward Moments
Growing Pains
Growing up is an awesome thing,
You’re learning and earning each day.
New things to do, strange things to see,
And all sorts of surreal things to say.
But when those teenage years arrive,
New things will come to attention.
No longer an innocent bystander,
You’re intrigued by a strange form of tension.
Bumps on the school bus are menacing prompts,
They awaken the goblin below.
You do all you can, to hide the new span,
We’ve arrived? Rock steady. Oh no!
Geometry teachers, now blossom and heave,
What the hell are these burning sensations?
As she draws on the the board, obtuse angle applauds ,
And sparks thoughts of more fleshy equations.
Soon after this strife, you’ll learn skills in life,
To bring calm to these moments of girth.
A fist and a shuffle that’s quite the kerfuffle,
Which ends in a spritz of your worth.
You’ll find endless joy, in this personal toy,
But beware of the pre-bedtime diddle,
For after such chores you’ll be settled to snores,
Without folding your obstinate fiddle.
It will happen but once, and you’ll feel like a dunce,
Guaranteed! To never, repeat.
When, come breakfast your mum, sees her slumbering son,
With what’s left of a ‘boner petite’.
